Aloysius D. "Al" Jankord, age 87, died February 25, 2008 at his home, surrounded by his family in Salina, KS. Mr. Jankord was born April 23, 1920 at Rockham, SD. He was in the dairy industry for many years, was the director of purchasing for St. Johns Hospital for 12 years and retired from Payless Cashways in Salina. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a 4th degree Knight, a member of the VFW Post 1432, and the American Legion both of Salina. He served 39 years on the Board of Directors for the Inter-Parochial Credit Union of Salina. He was the Head Usher for over 20 years at the 8:30 am Sunday Mass at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, Salina. He was a avid Gardner and card player. He recently assisted St. Mary Grade School in obtaining two school buses. He was a veteran serving as a Chief Yeoman in the Navy during WW II. He is preceded in death by his parents Aloysius C. and Mary B. (Leitner) Jankord, five brothers, three sisters and one granddaughter Laura M. Meyer in 1995. Mr. Jankord is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Lucy of the home; two sons, Stephen G. of Manhattan, KS and Thomas P. of Burrton, KS.; seven daughters, Melinda Jankord-Steedman of Seattle, WA; Joan Schultz of Grafton, WI; Carol A. Meyer of Wichita, KS; Susan E. Jankord of Salina; Camille R. Harper of Malvern AR; Patricia A. Jankord of Renton, WA and Phyllis Jantz of Seattle, WA.; two brothers, Jack of Redfield SD and Lamont of Lauderdale Lakes, FL.; seventeen grandchildren and one great-grandson. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Thursday at the Saint Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, 230 E. Cloud St. Salina with Father Kerry Ninemire officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery Salina, with military honors. Visitation will be 10:00 am to 8:00 pm Wednesday at the Ryan Mortuary, where a Vigil/Rosary Service will be held at 6:30 PM Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to the Church, or to the St. Mary Grade School or to the Sacred Heart Jr/Sr High School. |
