Don married Vera Purcell on June 4, 1962. Don was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany. Don had retired from Hajoca Corp.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera; a daughter, Lorie McClintock; and a brother, Jimmy Lewis. Survivors include a son, Donald Lewis Jr. and wife Jana of Salina; two daughters, Cindy Acheson and husband Carl of Palco, and Jannice and husband Francis Hawpe of Hays; one brother Darrell of Wichita; and a sister, Shirley Donley of Belleville; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Ryan Mortuary, in Salina, Kansas. Inurnment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, in Clyde, Kansas, following the service.
