Josephine “Jo” Hartman Muhleisen

Josephine “Jo” Hartman Muhleisen, Josephine “Jo” Hartman Muhleisen died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at home. She was born on April 1, 1930, to George and Florence (Hurd) Hartman in Doniphan, Nebraska. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Cowels, Nebraska, where she attended school with her sisters and brother. In 1948, during her senior year in high school in Blue Hill, Nebraska, she met and fell in love with her future husband, Burnell Muhleisen. They were married May 1, 1949. Jo was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was active in her church and had many friends who will miss her giving and gracious ability to make others feel special. Jo was a homemaker for most of her life, but had worked at Market Aide for a short time. She was preceded in death by 2 infant daughters; her parents; and a sister, Joan Giger. She is survived by her husband, Bumen, of Salina; daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Duane Schroeder of Topeka, Kansas; and a son, Tom Muhleisen of Salina; grandsons, Daric Schroeder and wife Stacie of Lawrence, Kansas, and Darin Schroeder and wife Michene; great-grandsons, Isaac and Elijah of Burlingame, Kansas. She is also survived by three sisters, Kathleen and Jim Boyd of McKinney, Texas, Sally Koertner of Gothenburg, Nebraska, and Lila and Gary Lammers of Bladen, Nebraska; and brother Vernon Hartman and wife Carol of Vancouver, Washington. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Christ The King Lutheran Church, 111 W. Magnolia, Salina, the Rev. LeRoy Pralle officiating. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Lutheran Cemetery, Blue Hill, NE. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice of Salina or to the donor’s choice. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina, KS.
