PORTERSVILLE, Calif. — Mary Kathleen Nichols, 79, Portersville, was born Nov. 30, 1929, in Salina, Kan. On Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, heaven was needing a hero, and our beloved wife, mother and grandmother was called home. Do not weep for the memories but rejoice for a life well spent loving deeply, finding wisdom in her adventures, caring for the helpless, fighting for who she loved, standing for what she believed in and teaching the world to do the same. Her legacy can be found in the smiles of her husband of 62 years; SMSgt James Nichols; children, Diane and Robert McPhetridge, Janice and Brett Baxter, and Jerry and Suzanna Nichols; grandchildren, Mason McPhetridge, Jason Nichols, Jeremy McPhetridge, Christine Beede, and Amanda Baxter; siblings, Margaret Winters, George Poague, and John Poague; and several great-grandchildren. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina. In memory of Mary’s avid love and care for animals, we ask that you make a donation to your local animal shelter. |
