| Donald Louis “Louie” Niemann |
Donald Louis “Louie” Niemann, 68, Salina, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2008, in his hometown of Salina. Louie was a lifelong, devoted science educator, touching the lives of thousands of students over his 37 year career with his passion for botany, chemistry and biology. He bequeathed his body for scientific research to the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, in the hope that a cure for Alzheimer’s can be found. Louie was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Louise Niemann. He is survived by two sons, Casey of Lenexa and Zachary of Portland, OR; a brother, William “Bill” Niemann and wife Diana of Morley, MI; a sister, Anita Alton of Salina; three nephews, Kevin Alton and wife Cinnamon of Salina, Christopher Niemann of Havelock, NC, and Andrew Niemann of Morley, MI; a niece, April Alton of Neodesha; a great-nephew, David Alton of Manhattan; three great-nieces, Krystle and Kyla Alton of Salina, and McKenzie Niemann of Havelock, NC; many cousins; and a special family friend, Joni Cornett of Salina. There will be no formal visitation. A private family candlelight memorial will be held in Salina. A memorial reception celebrating Louie’s life will be in late August 2008, where the time and date will be determined at Westside High School in Omaha, NE, conducted by fellow science educators and sons. Memorial donations may be sent to Anita Alton, 1330 Parkwood, Salina, KS 67401, to plant legacy trees in several of the Salina parks where Louie grew up, in care of Ryan Mortuary, Salina. |
