Rita C. Riordan, age 77, died June 9, 2008 at her home. She was born June 22, 1930, in Salina, the daughter of Raymond and Grace Shanahan. She loved to dance and traveled to many places, including China, Europe, Australia and almost all 50 states. She was a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish. She is preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Bates; and brothers, Patrick and Mike Shanahan. She is survived by her life companion, Willis “Tux” Tuxhorn, Salina; her daughter, Cathy and husband Steve Sturtevant, Oregon; and four sons, Dennis Riordan and life companion Ursula, Hawaii, Ray and wife Terry Riordan, California, Tom and wife Regina Riordan, California, and Mark and wife Sharon Riordan, Kentucky. She is also survived by a brother, Dan Shanahan; sister, Mary Jane Wessling; and eight grandchildren; Cari, Laura, Lindsey, Amanda, Kelsey, Brian, Kate and David. A memorial Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral on Friday, June 13, at 10:30 a.m. Vigil services will be held at Ryan Mortuary on Thursday evening at 6. Memorials are suggested to Catholic Charities or the Diabetes Foundation. |
