Leonard R. Schneider, Sr.

Leonard R. Schneider, Sr., 69, Salina, KS died Oct. 5, 2008. He was born May 27, 1939 in Hays, KS to Harm & Elsie (Eichman) Schneider. He graduated Trego Community High School in 1957. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Machinist’s Mate on the USS Lenawee #195 being honorably discharged in 1963. He was united in marriage to Nadine Rodgers April 12, 1959. They lived in Minneapolis, Minn., where he worked as a mason. He moved to WaKeeney, in 1966, to begin working on the family farm. After farming many years he held various jobs which included Flex King of Quinter, KS; Halblieb Construction of WaKeeney KS; USD 208 school bus driver in WaKeeney, KS. Unable to continue farming due to health problems which lead to open heart surgery in 1984 the family moved to Salina. He worked at Presbyterian Manor as a Maintenance Supervisor retiring in 2001. He was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a Master Mason and member of Salina Blue Lodge #60 and a Salina Shriner belonging to the Greeters Group.

He was preceded in death by and son-in-law Terry Tonne; brother Harm Leon Schneider; sisters Jasmine and Dorothy Schneider, and LaDonna Schwien; and brother-in-law Rex Bell.

He is survived by his wife Nadine of Salina; daughter, Rhonda Tonne of Salina, granddaughter Tera and husband Jon Olivigni, great-grandson Terry Joseph “TJ”, grandson Curtis and wife Shaleah Tonne, great-granddaughter McKenzi, great-grandson Jacob, granddaughter Jessica Tonne; daughter Renee and husband Stanton Stallings of Jetmore; granddaughter Kimberly and husband Clayton Reed, great grandson Chandler; granddaughters Tina and Steffanie Stallings; daughter Roleta and husband Mike Henry of Gypsum, granddaughter Emily and husband Matt Heller, great-grandson Brenton, great-granddaughters Josie and Raegan, and grandsons John and Carlos Henry; daughter Roberta and husband Bob Neuburger of Salina, granddaughters; Casey and Brittney, grandsons Nick and Cody; son Leonard R. Schneider Jr. and wife Stacey of Salina, granddaughter Myranda, grandson Leonard (LJ) , daughter Robin Schneider and Dan Wessel of Plainville, grandsons Brandon, Devon and Spencer, granddaughters Chelsey and Caitlin.

Leonard is also survived by his brother Kenneth and his wife, Dorothy, Schneider of WaKeeney, KS; sister Clarice Bell of Keller, TX; brother Vernon and his wife LaVeta Schneider of Ransom, KS; brother- in-law Ron Schwien of Ransom, KS.

Visitation will be from noon until 8:00 pm Tuesday at the Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Family will receive friends at the Mortuary from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm Tuesday evening.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 8, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Salina. Burial services with military honors presented by the U.S. Navy will be at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon in the WaKeeney Veteran’s Cemetery, WaKeeney, KS. with a reception to follow at the Zion Lutheran Church, rural WaKeeney. Memorials are suggested to the Leonard Schneider Memorial Fund.
