Curtis Nelson Schur
March 16, 1924 - October 6, 2008

Curtis Nelson Schur, son of Mac and Neva (Bartley) Schur, was born March 16, 1924 in Culver, KS. He passed away October 6, 2008 at the age of 84 in the Presbyterian Manor, Salina, KS.

He grew up and attended school in the Wells, Culver and Minneapolis area. On July 3, 1943 he was united in marriage to Marjorie Faye Pitts of Culver. During World War II, he served his country in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 149th Combat Engineers during D-Day on June 6th 1944. He was also awarded the Bronze Star, a French Bronze Star and the Croix De Guerre Award by General de Gaulle of the French Republic.

He had worked for Jo Mar Dairy in Salina, and later was the Director of Maintenance for District #11 for the Colorado Springs, CO Schools. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Peacemakers Sunday School Class. He was a life member of the VFW and DAV.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie of the home: One Brother Ralph Schur of Culver, KS; One niece Linda Schur of Kansas City, MO and many great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, October 9th 2008 at the Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth St. Salina with Rev. Troy Bowers officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis, KS. Visitation will be Wednesday evening 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, Salina, Hospice of Salina or to the Presbyterian Manor of Salina.
