Lyle Senseman
June 4, 1937 - January 25, 2008

Lyle Senseman, died January 25, 2008, at Dignity Care Home in Salina, Kansas.

Lyle was born June 4, 1937, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to James and Irene Smith Senseman.

On August 16, 1959, he married Connie Burruss at the Crescent Hill Evangelical United Brethren Church near Adrian, Missouri.

Lyle’s growing years were spent in Ponca City, graduating from high school in 1956. Additional education was received at Westmar College, Le Mars, Iowa, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education in 1960. In 1968, he earned a master’s degree in physical education from Emporia State University.

Lyle earned his Eagle Scout award and was proud that both of his sons earned this same award. He was pleased his grandsons continued the scouting tradition and are involved in Cub Scouts.

During college, Lyle served as aquatic director at the Will Rogers Scout Reservation in Cleveland, Oklahoma.

Lyle and Connie made their first home Marcus, Iowa, while Lyle finished college and Connie taught school. They moved to Blue Rapids, Kansas, where they taught school for two years.

Hugoton, Kansas, became their home in 1962, where they raised their family of four children. Lyle was employed by the Hugoton school system for 37 years in various positions. He taught health and physical education. He was head wrestling coach for 19 years as well as assisting junior high and senior high football at various times in his career and became part-time athletic director. In 1982, Lyle became the full-time athletic director until his retirement in 1999. During the summers in Hugoton, he worked for Star Lumber Company and the Hugoton Recreation Commission.

Lyle was a member of the Hugoton United Methodist Church, where he served on the board of trustees for a number of years. He was also a member of the Sante Fe Trail Association.

Survivors include his wife, Connie, of the home; daughters, Carol and her husband, Chuck Gorman, of Weslaco, Texas, Donna and her husband, Kevin Anderson, of Borger, Texas. His sons are Gary and his wife, Erin, of Fort Collins, Colorado, Greg and his wife, Dr. Ginger Senseman, of Salina, Kansas. Lyle also leaves behind seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Jeanna, Jessica and James Anderson of Borger, Texas, Natalya and Matthew Senseman of Fort Collins, Colorado, William and Samuel Senseman of Salina, Kansas, and Rileigh and Jordan Anderson of Borger, Texas.

A celebration of life service will take place on Monday, January 28, 2008 at the Hugoton United Methodist Church at 7:00 p.m. A private inurnment will take place at the Hugoton Cemetery.
