Robert "Bob" W. Shade
September 4, 1919 - January 28, 2008

Robert "Bob" W. Shade, 88, Salina, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008. He was born to Frank and Eunice Rogers Shade at Ellsworth on Sept. 4, 1919. He was a salesman for the H.D. Lee Co. He married Bess Surface of Marquette in Salina in October 1940.

He was a veteran of WWII. He entered the United States Army in April 1942, and was stationed at Camp Roberts, California, and Ft. Lewis, Washington. He was sent to New Britain, in the South Pacific for 32 months participating in the Northern Solomons, Bismark, Archipelago, and Luzon campaigns. He was discharged in Sept. 1945.

After his discharge he was in the insurance business in Topeka and then was with the State Bank of Downs for nine years. He returned to Salina and became associated with the Bolen-Wood Insurance Agency until his retirement.

He was a life member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Salina.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenneth. He is survived by his wife, Bess C., of the home.

There will be a graveside service at Roselawn Memorial Park at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to the church or a charity of the donor’s choice in his memory.
