Katherine M. Smith

Katherine M. Smith, 92, Salina, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008. She was born Katherine M. Nelson on September 30, 1915, in Salina to Harmon S. and Caroline Nelson. She was a secretary for Woodmen of the World Insurance in Denver, Colorado. In 1977, she retired and moved back to Salina.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lawrence Hogan, in 1976; her second husband, Willis Smith, in 1981; and one stepdaughter, Lynn DeLaney, in 2007.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, Kay Medley and husband Arlo of Gypsum, Kansas, and Virginia (Ginger) Loebach of Salina, Kansas; three sisters, Doris Schuerman of Houston, Texas, Marjorie Parry of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Constance Upton and husband Ernie of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; five stepgrandchildren, Matthew Medley and wife Shenandoah, Penni Maltbie and husband Chuck, Scott DeLaney, and Stephanie Ferguson and husband Rick of Salina and Samuel Allen of Ellsworth, Kansas; and eleven stepgreat-grandchildren, Elizabeth Metcalf, Steven Tatum, William Palenske, Nicole Medley, Cheyenne and Cierah Maltbie, Kathryn Relph, Jessica, Kendra, Kallie, and Drew Ferguson, all of Salina.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th, Salina, Kansas, with the Rev. Amy Bowers officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Wheat Ridge, Colorado. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Dignity Care, First United Methodist Church, or Hospiceof Kansas, all of Salina.
