LINCOLN — Norris Edward Veverka, 65, Lincoln, died Friday, June 20, 2008, at Salina Regional Health Center. He was born on Nov. 29, 1942, in Luray, to Ernest and Alice (Maixner) Veverka. He was a 1960 graduate of Luray High School and attended New Mexico State University. He married Kay Alida Thomforde of Zumbrota, MN, in 1962. He was a pilot and an A&P-rated aircraft mechanic and made his career as an aviator through work on several continents in weather modification research and agricultural and commercial aviation. He also farmed in and around the areas of Lincoln and Russell counties. He loved the water and all activities that allowed him to enjoy it. Norris also took pleasure in being in his shop to rebuild engines of planes, tractors and automobiles. His greatest pride was in his daughters and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Kay. Survivors include two daughters, Kim Rasmussen and husband John, Topeka, and Karen Swift and husband Dan, Cordova, TN; four grandchildren, Carly and Kathryn Rasmussen and Jacob and Anna Claire Swift; two sisters, Bernys Borun of La Jolla, CA, and Jean McCormick of Berryton; numerous nieces and nephews; and best friend, Kathy Anderson. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 24th at the Wilson State Park Chapel, Wilson Lake. Family contact is Karen Swift at dk_swift@bellsouth.net.
