LEESBURG, Fla. — Doyle Frederick Yockers, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008. He was born Nov. 7, 1922, and graduated from Salina High School, Salina, KS. Doyle met and wed Dorothy Jean Clemence to whom he was married for over 40 years. After her death, he married Patty Gilbert. They have been married for 20 years. Doyle owned Yockers’ Building and Real Estate Company in Salina and Manhattan, until his retirement. He was past president and longtime member of Manhattan Home Builders Association. He contributed greatly to the development of both cities. In addition to building Salina Bible Church, he served there as an elder. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corp, a member of Gideons International, Toastmasters Club and was involved in the Navigators ministry. He was also a founding board member of Lost Valley Ranch in Colorado. He is survived by his wife, Patty; daughters, Doyleene Hampton, Marcia Rippe and Mary JoLagoski; son, Mark; stepchildren, Keith Berkey and Angela Shriner; sister, Ida Loader; 10 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. Doyle loved horses, the mountains, watermelon and fun. He always wore a hat and whistled a merry tune. He was extremely generous to those around him. Kind and gentle, Doyle was not only a builder of homes but also a builder of people. The celebration of Doyle’s life will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina, KS 67401. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Lost Valley Ranch, Sedalia, CO, and William Holland School of Lapidary Art, Young Harris, GA. |
