Leslie V. Appleby, age 78, died Friday, June 5, 2009, at the Kaye Pogue Hospice Center, Salina. Mr. Appleby was born Feb. 17, 1931, in Wichita. He attended Wichita schools and Wichita State University. He received a degree in architecture from Kansas State University. He was a member of the Kansas State University Architect’s staff as an undergraduate and graduate student. He was associated with the Shaver Partnership Architects and was elected a partner in the firm. In 1971, he was a co-founder of the Appleby Marsh architectural firm, retiring from fulltime practice in 2006. He was a member of various professional and city boards, American Institute of Architects and National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Marie (McCoy) and Vere Griffith Appleby. Survivors include his wife, Louise A. (Giersch) Appleby, of the home; two daughters, Vicki Winter and husband Bob, of Salina, and Linda Maroney, of Las Vegas; two sons, Bryan Appleby, of Boulder, Colo., and Steve Thyfault, of Las Vegas: one sister, Mary Ellen Doss, of Crossville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina 67401, with family receiving friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina, with Father Allen Scheer as celebrant.
