| Elizabeth Louise Balch |
| February 2, 1923 - March 15, 2009 |
Elizabeth Louise Balch passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009, in Salina, at the age of 86, after a long illness. A native of Kansas City, Kan., Mrs. Balch is survived by her three children, Margaret Yarnevich, of Salina, Mary Collins, of Charlotte, N.C., and Lee Hassig Jr., of Toano, Va., all by her first marriage to Lee E. Hassig, also born in Kansas City, Kan. In 1974, Elizabeth wed Robert L. Balch, a retired railroad detective and Navy veteran of World War II, who hailed from St. Louis. For many years, the couple made their home in Parkville, Mo., where they were active in Chapter 2376 of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. After Robert’s passing in 2006, Elizabeth moved to Salina to be nearer her daughter Margaret. Fond memories of Elizabeth endure not only in her own children, but in her husband Robert’s son, Curtis Balch, his daughter, Elaine Pyatt, in Elizabeth’s seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and in her many more-distant relatives and wide circle of friends from her 20-year career with Aylward Building Supply Co. in Kansas City, Mo., and elsewhere. In deference to Elizabeth’s wishes, no memorial service will be held. She and Robert are to be buried together in a military funeral at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, at a date to be announced in the future. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Salina, Salina Presbyterian Manor or a charity of the donor’s choice, in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina 67401. |
