SHAWNEE — Ruth A. Berquist, 87, of Shawnee, died Wednesday, May 6, 2009. She was born March 15, 1922, in Flagstaff, Maine, the daughter of Pearly and Coralee Stevens. Ruth was a registered nurse for more than 25 years and worked at St. John’s Hospital. She also served in the U.S. Navy as a registered nurse during World War II. She was a member of the Rolling Hill Congregational Church, the Lady Elks and the Lady Elks Golf Association. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Berquist, in 1973. Survivors include her husband, Warren L. Berquist, of Shawnee; two daughters, Cheryl Froetschner, of Russell, and Julie Allen, of Shawnee; one sister, Ruey Baldwin, of Bangor, Maine; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 9, prior to the funeral service at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina, followed by funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, near Bridgeport. Memorial gifts may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association. |
