Alex was born Alexander Shane Brann on Jan. 26, 1993, in Salina. He had just completed his sophomore year at South High School, Salina, where he was in the gifted program taking AP classes. He was also active in the weight lifting program.

He is preceded in death by his grandfather, James O. Armes, in 2008; and an uncle, Shane Brann, in 1992.

Alex is survived by his parents, Denise Howie and stepfather Alan, of rural Abilene; and Lynn Brann and financé Rhonda Riffel and daughter Erica, all of Salina; his sister, Jessica Brann, of Salina; stepbrother, Evan Howie, of Abilene; and stepsister, Melinda Sutton and husband Shad, of Solomon; grandparents, Liz Armes, Madeline Bran and companion Nick Nicholson, and Richard Brann, all of Salina, and Alfred and Wilma Howie, of Abilene; his aunts, uncles and cousins, Cindy and Terry Lanham and children Brooke and Brittany, of Hutchinson, Frank and Danna Armes and son Ryan Armes, of Salina, Betty and Kevin Howie and children Katie, Natalie, Sean and Olivia Howie, of Abilene, and Lori Jennings and son Westley, of Salina; and a great uncle, Ernest Peets and companion Mildred Berger, of Salina.

A Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, 230 East Cloud St., Salina, with Father Kerry Ninemire celebrant. Inurnment will follow in All Saints Catholic Cemetery, east of Salina. There will be no visitation or viewing.
