She is survived by her husband Professor Emeritis Donald B. Olsen of Kansas Wesleyan University; two children from her first marriage Margaret "Maggie" Bartlett of Chandler, AZ and Elizabeth "Libby" Bartlett of Olathe, KS.; two children from her second marriage Shelley (Olsen) Miller of Galva, KS and Melanie Olsen of Wichita, KS.; one son-in-law Daniel Miller and two grandchildren Logan and Nicole Miller.

Iris graduated from Washburn University and worked as a social worker for over 25 years and a college instructor. She was a committed and strong advocate for children and their families. Her emphasis was on children with disabilities.

A memorial service will be held at University United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2009. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in her name may be made to the Special Olympics. Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th, Salina, Kansas 67401 is in charge of arrangements.
