Mildred T. Fisher
February 24, 1912 - January 24, 2009

Mildred T. Fisher, age 96, died peacefully on January 24, 2009. She was residing in Houston, Texas, upon her death.

Mildred was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on February 24, 1912. Mildred was a self-taught dancer. By the age of 14, Mildred was winning talent shows as a dancer and comedienne. She was discovered by an agent who launched her professional career. During her younger life, she performed in Vaudeville and traveled around the world performing. When the United States entered World War II, Mildred then joined the USO and entertained the troops in the European theater. Mildred’s first love was dancing and she also loved to tell jokes. These gifts continued with her throughout her life. Every day of her life, she would do anything for a laugh.

She married Jacob “Jake” Dale Fisher, an Army Air Corp Sergeant, in January, 1945, in California, and then they moved to the Fisher Family Farm located just outside of Bennington, Kansas. Jake and Mildred moved to Salina, Kansas, in 1976. She loved producing several projects that were aired on the local Public Television Channel and supported the local Community Theater. Jake preceded Mildred in death on March 25, 1979. In December, 2003, Mildred moved to Houston, Texas, to be closer to her daughter, Becky Harden.

Mildred was also preceded in death by her brothers, Samuel, Louis, and Joseph Benjamin and a sister, Ida Benjamin.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Becky Harden and her son-in-law, Steve Harden, Houston, Texas; brother, David Benjamin, Miramar, Florida; grandson, Charles Randall Prince, Lewisville, Texas; step-granddaughter, Melissa Harden Cordero and step-great-granddaughter, Madeline Dawn Cordero, both of Sandia Park, New Mexico.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 28 at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, 300 N. Nelson, Bennington, Kansas. Burial will be in the Bennington Cemetery.
