NEW CAMBRIA --Ralph Mattison, 83, of New Cambria, Kansas died Sunday, May 17, 2009 at his home in New Cambria. He was born June 7, 1925 in New Cambria, Kansas to Harry and Edna Mattison. He attended Solomon High and joined the Navy his senior year. Before shipping out he married Bethel Lee Shipe on October 14, 1944 at the United Brethren Church in Salina, Kansas. He was a lifetime farmer, rancher on the corner of Niles and Old 40 and the Saline Country NFO Vice-President. He was also a New Cambria school board member. He was a lifetime member of EUB United Methodist Church. He was a Sunday school teacher, sung in the church choir, was a youth director, and was on the board of trustee of EUB Church/ Church of the Cross. Ralph was a devoted husband and father. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Mattison, and his beloved wife Bethel Mattison. He is survived by two sons, Larry Mattison and his wife Linda of New Cambria, Kansas, and Roger Mattison and his wife Maureen of Salina, Kansas; two daughters, Judy Powell and her husband Michael Meeks of New Cambria, Kansas, and Janice Farless and her husband Delbert of New Cambria, Kansas; twelve grandchildren, Paul Powell, Jr., Lissa Mesa, Sarah Lundblade, Kelly Miller, Robin Gaedke, Heather Hutchins, Joshua Mattison, Sharon Bunting, Brian Farless, Nathan Mattison, Morgan Mattison, and Lane Mattison; fifteen great-grandchildren, Aubrey Powell, Ashlyn Lundblade, Katherine Boutz, Sierra Hollis, Tiffany Miller, Jordan Mattison, Sidney Gaedke, Amanda Miller, Jaci Mattison, Caden Acosta, Brittany May, Logan Turner, Colton Bunting, Jerrod Farless, and Kendal Summers; and one great-great-grandchild, Khristian Boutz. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Thursday May 21, 2009 at Church of the Cross United Methodist Church, Salina. Burial will be in the Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina. Friends may call at the Ryan Mortuary on Wednesday from noon until 8:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm that evening. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Kansas or Church of the Cross United Methodist Church. |
