Lawrence Irvin “Spud” “Bud” McDowell, 82, of Salina, passed away Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at Salina Regional Health Center. He was born May 31, 1926, near Kipp. “Spud” was a well known dairy and wheat farmer in Saline County around the Kipp area his entire life. He married Phyllis Bonin on Oct. 24, 1965. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Gussie McDowell; and brother, Eldon McDowell. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, of the home; two daughters, Linda Ash and husband George, of Two Buttes, Colo., and Lisa McDowell and Brian Blackwood, of Salina; three sons, Steve and wife Doreen, Jim and wife Valerie, and Jay and wife Tammy, all of Salina; a sister, Norma Larson, of Kensington; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family and friends will celebrate his life at a memorial service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina 67401. Inurnment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina. Memorials may be made to Southeast of Saline Education Foundation. |
