| Verda “Viola” Miller |

Verda “Viola” Miller, 84, of Salina, passed away Saturday morning, June 6, 2009. She was born Nov. 8, 1924, in Glendale, to Berton and Verda (Beach) Weis. Viola attended school in Glendale and graduated from Glendale High School in 1942, at which time she moved to Salina. Viola held various jobs until she went to work as a bookkeeper at Schilling Air Force Base until its closing in 1965. Later, she moved to Boulder, Colo., and was employed by the U.S. Government for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Viola served there as a scientific data clerk until her retirement in 1991. She greatly enjoyed and excelled at her work there, making many close friends. Viola’s favorite hobby was gardening, and she was an active member of the Master Gardner Program in both Boulder and Salina. She always took great pride in her colorful gardens at home. Viola enjoyed watching sports, especially KU Jayhawk basketball. In addition to her parents, Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil “Buddy” Miller; two brothers, Harold and Raymond Weis; and a sister, Lucille Deering. Survivors include a son, Jeffrey S. Miller, of Westminister, Colo.; two brothers, Lloyd Weis, of Valentine, Neb., and Paul Weis, of Casa Grande, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews. A private family graveside service will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Tammy Walker Cancer Center, in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina 67401. |
