Dr. Richard A. “Dick” Swenson, 93, of Salina, died March 12, 2009. He was born son of Otis & Rosamond (Fredrickson) Swenson, Sept. 18, 1915, in Clay Center, KS. Richard married Clemmie I. Miller on Nov. 12, 1938, in Kansas City, MO. For 43 years, Richard practiced dentistry in the Salina United Building. He has been a member of the First Baptist Church since 1939 holding many church offices and participating on various committees. Richard was also involved with both the Salina and Elk’s Country Club. As a Life Member of The Kiwanis Club of Salina, he not only served as president but was also a piano accompanist for 60 years. Richard was Scout Master and committee member of Troop #1 earning the Silver Beaver award for his 20 years of service to Coronado Council. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers; and one sister. Survivors include three sons, Ron & wife Carole, of Overland Park, David & wife Tommye, of Concordia, and Laurence & wife Cynthia, of McPherson; two daughters, Karen Bastin & husband John, of Salina, and Marilyn Schmiedeler & husband Michael, of Salina; sister-in-law, Billie Swenson, of Clay Center; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, at the First Baptist Church, 843 Lewis, Salina. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina. Memorial gifts should be given to First Baptist Church or Hospice of Salina. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. |
