Mr. Vargas was born Feb. 18, 1950, in Salina. He was known for his service to Salina as a cook and catering business, serving his specialty of Mexican foods.He was a veteran, serving in Korea from 1969 to 1971, and was a member of the American Legion of Salina.

He is preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Antonia (Zaragoza) Vargas; and two brothers, Tommy and LeRoy C.

He is survived by two sons, Robert P. Vargas, of Yuba City, Calif., and Robert M. Blake, of Topeka; a daughter, Tracey L. Adkins, of Yuba City, Calif; three brothers, Daniel J. and Jerry J., both of Salina, and Richard A., of Wichita; three sisters, Mary Ellen Soto, of Topeka, Marie A. Vazquez, of Utuado, Puerto Rico, and Rosanna I. Anderson, of Salina; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 26 nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and nephews; and a family friend, Susan Torres, of Salina.

The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. today at the Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina, with Father Allen Scheer officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Salina. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the Saline County Dialysis Center or to the American Diabetes Association.
