Mr. Vawter was a World War II veteran and a lifetime member of the VFW. He retired from Sellers Tractor Company in 1990.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Barr; brother, Robert Vawter; and sisters, Vera Millar and Leland Bradford. Survivors include his wife, Rose Vawter, of the home; daughter, Donna Stillwagon, of Minneapolis; son, Ron Vawter, of Salina; brothers, Fred Vawter and wife Lillias, of Salina, and Allen Vawter, of Denver; sisters, Iris Percival, of Salina, and Winnifred Robertson, of Boulder, Colo.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina 67401, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 4, at the mortuary, with Pastor Allen D. Smith officiating, followed by burial in Prairiemound Cemetery, Ellsworth. Memorial gifts may be given to the Salvation Army, ABATE, or the World War II Honor Flight, and may be sent to or left in care of the mortuary.
