Ruth Marie Warttig

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Ruth Marie Warttig, 86, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009, in Springfield. Ruth was born May 14, 1922, in Ellsworth County, Kan., to Frank and Bertha (Grosnick) Schwerdtfeger. She lived most of her life in Salina, Kan., where she was a homemaker and nurse’s assistant at Asbury Hospital, and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She moved to Springfield in 2002 and became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Springfield.

Ruth married Walter R. Warttig on Feb. 18, 1942, in Louisville, Ky. He died in 2003. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Lucina Eggleston; and brother, Erwin Schwerdtfeger.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Robert) Kipfer, of Springfield, and Linda (Roger) Pollock, of Elgin, Ill.; and four grandchildren, Mark Kipfer, of Berkeley, Calif., Amy Kipfer, of Evanston, Ill., Michelle Linke, of Mt. Prospect, Ill., and Jonathan Pollock, of Marengo, Ill. Ruth is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Shama Kipfer-Tessler, Darya and Ahva Kipfer, Taylor and Allison Linke, and Cole Pollock; and four sisters, Elda Haase, of Ellsworth, Kan., Viola Ferguson, of Cheyenne, Wyo., Diana Magana, of Brookville, Kan., and Bertha Rojas, of Kanopolis, Kan.

She received loving care to the end of her life from the staff of the Manor at Elfindale and Community Hospices of America.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Salina, with Pastors Robert Schaedel and Charles Adams officiating.

Visitation will be prior to the service at 10 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina, following the service.
