Frances L. Young , 87, Salina, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009. She was born March 28, 1922 in Salina, the daughter of Nelson and Oralee (Hayes) Sowell. She worked for Philips Lighting and Olehert Tractors. She was a member of St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as choir director for over 50 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Marjorie Reid; five brothers and sisters, Jane Johnson, John Sowell, Byrdie Kelly, Charles Sowell and Jessie Evans; and one grandson, Marc Tankard. She is survived by one son, James (Hannelore) Young, of Westminister, Colo.; two daughters, Sandra (Randy) Reno, of Thornton, Colo., and Fran Young (Jeffrey) Jefferson, of Holton; 39 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family. |
