Nita M. Currier
February 14, 1934 - March 31, 2010

ATWOOD — Nita M. Currier, of Atwood, was born Feb. 14, 1934, on a farm in Studley to Harry and Thressa (Keith) Madden and died Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Salina Regional Medical Center, Salina, after a heroic battle against cancer.

Marcille was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She loved gardening and it showed.

She was a member of PEO Chapter AX of Atwood, Town and Country, Atwood Hospital Board, Chamber Of Commerce and was a part of bringing life back to the Jayhawk Theatre in Atwood. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, walking, bass fishing with her husband and caring for her family. Her deep appreciation and dedication to the community was driven by her love of Northwest Kansas, it’s history and culture.

Marcille is survived by her children, Jim Currier, of Abilene, Gene and Sara Currier, of Independence, Mo., Brian and Carla Currier, of Mountain Home Ark., and Karen and Kelly Cooper, of Abilene; grandchildren, Ariele Erwine, Ian Currier, Hadrian Currier, Tess Currier, Angela Schumacher, Elizabeth Riley, Travis Currier, Lydia Cooper, Joseph Cooper and Zoe Cooper; her sisters, Ida Alice Montgomery and Janice and Dutch Richmeier, all of Hill City; and many nieces and nephews. Marcille was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Albert Currier; parents, Harry and Thressa Madden; brother, Gene Madden; and nephew, Jeff Madden.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 5, at Atwood United Methodist Church, Atwood. Memorial donations may be made to Relay for Life and Atwood Second-Century Fund, and may be sent to or left in care of Williams Funeral Home, 109 N. Second, Atwood 67730, or Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina 67401.
