Glendale’s 1939 team was the best ever, winning county and regional championships.

In 1942, he joined the Army Air Corps and was in advanced flying school when the war ended. Upon discharge, he returned to Kansas and worked for the Salina Fire Department. He spent 26 years as a fireman, retiring in 1972. During this time and after, he also worked as a carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Michael Glendening. Survivors include his daughter, Terry Brightbill and husband Robert, of Salina; three grandchildren, Robin Cairns, Chad Brightbill and Wynne Brightbill; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Brandon.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at the mortuary, with burial in Bridgeport Cemetery.
