James R. Levin
July 3, 1923 - January 15, 2010

James Richard "Dick" Levin, 86, of Salina, passed away Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at Salina Regional Health Center. He was born July 3, 1923, the son of Verner and Sarah Levin, and was a lifetime resident of Salina.

He graduated from Salina High School in 1943. On May 4, 1947, he married Amy Ellen Loomis in Falun.

He worked as printer and linotype operator for the Salina Journal. He retired from the Journal in 1985, after 41 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific.

He was a member of University United Methodist Church, a life member of the VFW Post 1432, a 58-year member of the International Typographical Union and the Communication Workers of America. A former member of American Legion, Salina Elks Lodge, The Salina Moose Lodge, The Salina Bowling Association and The Saline County Rod & Gun Club. He was an avid swimmer growing up.

He was preceded in death by a stillborn son, Bruce Allen; stillborn granddaughter, Kelly Jewel Presley; brother, Sam Levin; and sisters, Irene Hamilton, Lillian Palmer, Margaret Goodall, Olga Lowe, Jane Earnhardt, Helen Bachofer, Francis Dickey, and LaDonna Pickering. Survivors include his wife, Amy, of the home; daughter, Judy Presley, of Topeka; son, Curtis Levin and wife Karen, of Salina; granddaughters, Kari Presley, of Topeka, and Ashley Levin, of Salina; grandson, Jesse Levin and wife Bree, of Salina; great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Levin; and sister, Doris Gay and husband Clyde, of Salina.

Per his request, Dick's body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical School.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, at the Ryan Mortuary, Salina. There is no visitation.
