Jean K. Scribner, 89, of Salina, passed away Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at her son's home in Columbia, Mo. She was born Dec. 24, 1920, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, to Ralph R. and Evelyn (Biddle) Reed. On March 2, 1944, she was married to Harold R. Scribner at the Smokey Hill Army Air Base Chapel, Salina. Harold preceded her in death. Jean was also preceded in death by her brother, James S. Reed, M.D., of Lawrence; and a grandchild, Anne Christine Scribner. Survivors include her sister, Mary Janet (Reed) Parsons, of Wichita; son, Robert J. Scribner and wife Doris, of Columbia, Mo.; grandchildren, Robert (Mark) Scribner, of Dover, Del., and Alison (Scribner) Glenn, of DuPont, Wash.; and great-grandchildren, Noah Scribner and Samuel Scribner, sons of Robert Mark and Christina Scribner. Jean graduated from Kansas State University with her Master of Education. She taught school for 30 years, mostly in Salina. Jean was active in the community: a member of St. Mary's Queen of the Universe Church, president of the Salina Regional Health Center Auxiliary for five years, assistant state director of AARP, state coordinator for 55 Alive Mature Driving, member of American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of the Saline County Retired Teachers' Association. In 1995, she was named one of Salina's Women of Achievement. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, 230 E. Cloud St., Salina 67401, with Father John Wolesky as celebrant. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina 67401, with a vigil at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salina Regional Health Center Cardiology Department, the Kansas State University School of Veterinary Medicine Small Animal Research, the Salina Senior Center or the church. |
