Duane C. Johannes, 87, of Salina, passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017. A lifelong resident of Saline County, he was born Aug. 19, 1930 to Harold and Gertrude (Breer) Johannes. He married Roberta (Boyer) Garten, Jan. 12, 1991. Duane graduated from Kipp High School in 1948. He was a farmer-stockman all his life, retiring in 1995.
Survivors include: his wife, Roberta of the home; stepsons, Robert Garten (Lisa) of Abilene, and Gary Garten (Becky) of Overland Park; sister, Laveda Fergison (Duane) of Salina; brother-in-law, Carl Nemechek; three step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Delmer Johannes; sister, Charlotte Nemechek (Carl); step-granddaughter, Chris Ann (Garten) Tittle; and infant brother, Charles Johannes.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, with the vigil at 7 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 2, at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, 203 E. Cloud, Salina, with Fr. Kevin Weber as officiant. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
