|Berniece Regina (Hodler) Kearns|
|January 16, 1930 - October 10, 2017|
Berniece Regina (Hodler) Kearns, 87, of Salina, passed away Oct. 10, 2017, at her home. She was born Jan. 16, 1930, on the family farm outside Beloit, to Fred and Regina Hodler. Berniece married Glenn A. Kearns, Dec. 23, 1954, who died in 1998.
In addition to being a full-time homemaker and caregiver, Berniece worked at the Salina Public Library for 29 years. She was very active in the community, volunteering and helping others through her work with many organizations and assistance programs.
Survivors: children, Mac Kearns (Ellie), Ianne Dickinson (Scott), Sheryl Gansel (Jeff), and Lee Kearns (Cathy); grandchildren, Shawn Dickinson (Megan), Christina Dickinson Michelle Gilstrap (Andy), Stephanie Haney, and Megan Kearns; great-grandchildren, Liam Dickinson, Finn Dickinson, and Atticus Gilstrap.
More than anything, family was important to Berniece. She was proud of her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, and all the in-laws. She loved to talk about them to anyone who would listen. In addition, she frequently shared pictures of the great-grandkids with her lunchmates at the senior center, where she ate almost daily.
Anytime the family was together, Berniece was thrilled. Family weekends at Pomona Lake were not to be missed. She enjoyed the food, the laughter, and of course the games. Quiddler was her favorite game, and her vocabulary was impressive! She also enjoyed playing Words With Friends and completing the daily Salina Journal crossword puzzle and the word searches at the senior center.
Berniece was known for her positive attitude, spunk, and smile.
She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13 at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Salina, with burial at Gypsum Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: the Salina Public Library, or Trinity United Methodist Church.
