Patsy Elaine (Barrett) Cunningham, 89, of Salina, passed away Friday, Feb. 9, 2018. She was born June 21, 1928 in Turon, the daughter of Walter and Ruth (McCullough) Barrett.
She received her B.S. in elementary education from Wichita University in 1960 and her M.S. in education from Kansas State University in 1971. In 1947, she married Donald Cunningham, with whom she recently celebrated her 70th wedding anniversary. A beloved teacher in Turon, Wichita, Augusta, and Salina, she taught for 40 years, the last 25 of which were spent teaching 4th grade at Hageman Elementary School in Salina. Throughout her life, as a teacher, mother, and grandmother, she bestowed on others her love of music, literature, and life. She was a member of Belmont Boulevard Christian Church, where she worked as a volunteer, and was also a life member of the PTA, NEA, and KARSP, and was named Salina’s Master Teacher in 1987-88.
Patsy is survived by: her husband, Don Cunningham; a sister, Judy Clough of Stafford; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Marlies Cunningham of Holland, Mich.; and grandchildren, Nick and Emily Hittner-Cunningham.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at Belmont Boulevard Christian Church, 2508 Belmont Boulevard, with burial at 4 p.m. at Turon Cemetery.
