Rhoda Ellen Kennedy, 92, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018. She was born Oct. 19, 1925, in Hoxie, to Frank and Iva (Hunter) Smith.
She was raised on a farm in North West Kansas with her parents and siblings. She graduated from Jewel High School in 1944. She attended Brown Mackie Business College, Salina, and worked as a secretary at an insurance company. She met Melvin G. Kennedy while attending First Assembly of God Church and they were married, June 13, 1948. They lived on a farm north west of Salina where they raised two sons, James Lee and Robert Melvin.
Rhoda loved family, reading books, and working puzzles. She loved family life and raising her family. She loved to travel with her husband in their trailer.
She is survived by a son, James Lee Kennedy of Salina.
She is preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Melvin; son, Robert; siblings, Harlan Smith, Melvin Smith, Maudie Overton, Owen Clifford Smith, Arnold Smith, Iva Farmer, Martha Lantz, Frank Smith, and Robert Smith.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, with the family present from 5-6 p.m.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at Heartland Worship Center, 118 South Eighth Street, Salina. Graveside services at Gypsum Hill Cemetery will follow.
