David Vega Obituary

David James Vega, 65, joined our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in Heaven on January 29, 2026. He was born on April 5, 1960 in Salina, Kansas to Ladislao and Olivia (Lujan) Vega.

Growing up, he lived in Morenci and Tucson, AZ, the Panama Canal Zone, Rapid City, SD, Duncan, AZ & Bossier City, LA as part of a proud Air Force family. He graduated from Duncan High School in 1978 right before moving to Salina, KS permanently.

David served as a Board Member for the Kansas Crossroads Blues Society and was an avid lifelong blues and live music supporter, enjoying concerts far and near. His music passions included collecting and restoring vintage guitars and amplifiers. He enjoyed traveling and hunting for those vintage treasures, good friends, good food and good music. He always found great joy and peace in front of his stereo. He exemplified commitment, loyalty, and a strong work ethic throughout his life. David made his career at General Battery/Exide/Stryten Energy from 1978 up until his passing.

It is an impossible task to adequately describe the love, support and guidance given to his family. He never missed an opportunity to support his children and grandchildren in their lives individually and collectively. Christ and Family were his priorities, and he exemplified this in his daily walk of life. His presence will forever be remembered and absence forever felt.

David was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and grandson A.J. who was born sleeping. Left behind to mourn and honor him are his son, Amos Vega and daughter, Miranda Brown (Aaron); grandchildren, Christian and Chloe Vega, Derek (Lillie) Knapp; and Avery Allen, Lainey Rian, Graham Ethan, Genevieve Rose and Ava Amalie Olivia Brown. He is also survived by his siblings Nora Vega-Mans (Michael) and Edward Vega; nephews Joseph (Kaley), Michael and Dominic Mans, and many family and friends who will miss him dearly.

Mass Of Christian Burial for David will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina at 10am on Saturday, February 21 with inurnment to follow immediately at All Saints Catholic Cemetery followed by a traditional taco luncheon in his honor.

Memorials can be made to Catholic Charities either direct or in care of Ryan Mortuary.
