Gladys Reid Obituary

Gladys Louise Reid passed away on April 17, 2024 at the age of 96.  Gladys was born on February 9, 1928, in Westmorland, Kansas. Gladys and her family moved to Osage City, Kansas at the age of 2. She graduated from Osage City High School in 1946 and was the Salutatorian of her class. 

Gladys enrolled at the College of Emporia, where she met Lewis. They were married on August 29, 1948 in Osage City, Kansas. They moved to Topeka, Kansas where Gladys worked for Kansas State Corporation Commission, while Lewis attended Pharmacy School at the University of Kansas. They had 3 daughters, Marsha Ann, Sharon Louise, and Deborah Sue. Gladys and Lewis were charter members of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Topeka, Kansas. They resided in Topeka for 13 years before moving to Salina, Kansas. 

Lewis opened Key Rexall Drug in Salina, Kansas in 1961. Also, in 1961, they joined Sunrise Presbyterian Church and have been active members since that time. Gladys was a homemaker and did some bookkeeping and payroll for Key Rexall Drug. She was a tireless volunteer, a home room mother, and active in PTA at Grace E. Stewart school. She served many roles at Sunrise Presbyterian Church including Deacon, Elder, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School leader, and was active in the Women’s group. She delivered Meals On Wheels for many years and was also a Girl Scout leader. Gladys loved to play bridge and was active in many bridge groups. She and Lewis enjoyed dancing and were members of a dance group. 

She and Lewis loved to travel. They visited all 50 states and their Capitols. They also made many trips abroad, including Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Canada, Panama Canal and many countries in Europe. Gladys and Lewis also went on a mission trip to Guatemala.

Gladys was so proud of her family and they were extremely important to her. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Harry C. and Grace Gladys Ford, and her two brothers, Harry Ford and Charles Ford. She is survived by her husband, Lewis F. Reid, three daughters, Marsha (Jerry) Franklin, Sharon (Larry) Rauschenbach and Deborah (Ron) Mountsier, seven grandchildren, Jason (Suzi) Franklin, Sarah (Brian) Gisick, Ashley (Mike) Greaving, Lauren (Chris) Schekorra, Cliff (Beth) Mountsier, Maggie (Ethan) Gechter, Andrew Mountsier, and 12 great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at Sunrise Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., with a luncheon to follow. A private family graveside service will be held at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.
