John Hays Obituary

John Owen Hays, 72, from Salina, KS, passed away Wednesday morning, November 12, 2025, at his home.

John was born February 22, 1953 at Lindsborg, KS, the son of Charles R. and Daisy (Hilleary) Hays. He grew up in the Salina area and graduated from Central High School.

John served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1972-1976. John was united in marriage to Carol Jean Arnoldy on August 17, 1974 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Tipton, KS. After returning home from being stationed in Norfolk, VA they made their home in Salina, KS.

John was an employee of Exide Batteries for over 35 years.

He was a member of the St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church and a member of the Folk Choir. He was also a member of the Loyal of the Moose Lodge, Salina, KS, and made his way up through the officer's chairs.

John was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Dave; and brother-in-law, Dennis Wilkins.

Survivors include wife, Carol Jean of Salina; sister, Ellen Wilkins of Minneapolis, KS; sister-in-law and spouse Charlene & Roy Diers of Hastings, NE; plus many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and friends.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, with a rosary prayer service at 4 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 17, at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, Salina, with Father Adam Urban and Father Kerry Ninemire officiating. The graveside committal service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the St. Boniface Cemetery in Tipton, KS with Father Luke Thielen officiating.

Memorials may be made to Tammy Walker Cancer Center of Salina, in care of Ryan Mortuary.
