Julia Zaragoza Bailey, 94, of Salina, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family Saturday, March 13, 2021. Julia was born in Salina, Kan., February 25, 1927.
Julia enjoyed her life to the fullest with family and friends. She was an avid gardener, animal lover, fantastic bowler (average 210), and traveled extensively throughout her life. What truly set her apart was her feisty loving spirit. To have her in your life was to know the true meaning of unconditional (sometimes tough) love.
Another trademark of Julia's Spirit was her tenacious work ethic. She graduated Salina High School in 1945 and went on to receive her business degree from Brown Mackie College. She worked at JJ Newbury, Beech Aircraft, owned and operated El Sombrero Restaurant, Gibson’s, A + B Machine Shop, Central Mall, and finished her career as a CNA and CMA at McCall Manor. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary, Sacred Heart Cathedral (Salina), and Machinist Union AFL-C10.
Julia was a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She is survived in death by her sisters, Patricia Martinez and Rita Alloway; children, Bruce, Scott, Barbara; grandchildren, Tyson, Melanie, Bruce, Gary (Jessica), Tonya (Josiah), Bryan, Tyler, Kayleigh; and ten great-grandchildren. She was never afraid to speak her mind and often shared her thoughts about life freely. Although she bestowed upon us many of her "pearls of wisdom" we find that her wording is a bit too "colorful" for the local paper.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ramon and Avelina (Torres) Zaragoza; daughter, Annette Bailey Biscamp; brothers, David, Henry, Augustine, Everett, Gabriel, Daniel, and Raymond; and sisters, Lenore, Mary, Margaret, Antonia, and Emmaline.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 26, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, with a vigil service at 6.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, with burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Salina.
Memorials may be made to Salina Animal Services, care of Ryan Mortuary.
