Karl "Doug" Musick Obituary

Karl Douglas “Doug” Musick, of Salina, Kansas, passed away February 21, 2025. He was born on August 20, 1946, in McPherson, Kansas, to Donald Musick and Anna Maebelle (Shroeder) Musick. He graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in anthropology in 1968.

Doug joined the Army in 1968 and served in the Infantry until 1975 with tours in both Vietnam and Germany. He left the Army as a captain with multiple awards and recognitions which included Bronze Stars, Purple Heart, and Combat Infantry Badge.

After leaving the Army, Doug attended and graduated from the gunsmith program at Colorado School of the Trades in Lakewood, Colorado. He moved to Concordia, Kansas, where he worked for the KNCK Radio Station for many years where his voice was very recognizable. He managed Constructive Playthings until they closed in the early 90’s. He also owned his own business, KBM Technologies, where he supplied internet and website design services.

In 1988, Doug married Betty (Alcorn) DeWitt in Concordia, Kansas and gained three stepsons. Doug and Betty continued to live in Concordia and were active in the local VFW post, eventually becoming State Commander for the state of Kansas. Together they enjoyed traveling and throughout Kansas representing veterans in their roles. They relocated to Salina in 2006.

Doug was proceeded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; and nephew, Ryan Wilhm. He is survived by his sister, Deb Wilhm, Bentonville, AR; nephew, Brandon Wilhm, Austin, TX; stepsons, Steve DeWitt (Barb), Bennington, John DeWitt, Salina, Dennis DeWitt (Jennifer), Abilene; granddaughters, Ashley Hekele (Jason), Olathe, Chelsey Giambrone (Collin), Olathe; grandsons, Tyler DeWitt (Krista), Salina, Eli DeWitt, Abilene; great-granddaughters, Allison LaValette, Olathe, Reagan DeWitt, Salina, Freya Giambrone, Olathe, Amelia Giambrone, Olathe; great-grandson, and Paxton DeWitt, Salina.

Cremation was chosen and the family will hold a dual celebration of life for both Doug and Betty at the VFW Post 1432, 1108 W Crawford St, Salina, KS 67401, on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Memorials may be given to Accessible Home Health, Inc. or Kansas VFW Endowment Association, in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th St, Salina, KS 67401.
