Marilyn Schleiger Obituary

Marilyn Dee (McCausland) Schleiger, 88, formerly of Salina, died Thursday, January 25th in Schertz, TX where she had resided since 2016.  Marilyn was born August 8, 1935 in Beloit, KS to Harry Clifton and Anna Edith (Humes) McCausland.

Marilyn lived her early life in Beloit. After her father’s death, the family moved to Salina so her mother could find work to support the family. She graduated from Salina High School in 1953 and married Ralph Schleiger that same year. Being an army wife, they lived in Newport News, VA until they returned to live in Salina.

Marilyn worked for Southwestern Bell for over 25 years and made many good friends in Salina and Topeka while being an operator and moving into management. She worked with the Girl Scouts and sang with the Sweet Adelines. She made many lifelong friends while traveling for the Union Pacific Old Timers Club with Ralph when he was the National President for the organization. In addition to Old Timers, their travels took them to Germany, England, Alaska and throughout the United States.

After retirement, Marilyn continued to enjoy sewing, experimental cooking, traveling with friends and family and decorating wedding cakes. She loved watching movies well into the night when family visited and having the swimming pool used by various groups.

Marilyn was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for over 60 years. She and Ralph served a mission in the Concordia, KS branch to help the church grow in that area and served in many positions within the church. She enjoyed and was an avid genealogist. She was also a breast cancer survivor.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph, an infant son David, her sisters Maxine Johnson, Lucille McCausland, Virginia Rees, Vivian Zajac and brothers Bob and Bill McCausland.

Survivors include her children Bob (Susan) Schleiger of Derby, KS, David (Yvette) Schleiger of Schertz, TX and Connie Ausland of Bartlesville, OK; a brother, Gary (Judy) McCausland of Overland Park, KS; seven grandchildren, Victoria, Emma, Thomas, Lauren, Michael, Eric and Kristy; and eight great grandchildren, Amelia, Alyssa, Alex, Ruby, Myla, Sutton, Remi and Lincoln.
