Mark Ray Griggs

Mark Ray Griggs, 68, of Salina, passed away on Monday April 8, 2025. Mark was adopted by Douglas Griggs and Laverne (Olson) Griggs-Hiemstra in October of 1956.

Mark spent his early childhood in Iowa. He moved with his family when he was 3 to Overland Park and later to Garden City in 1963. Mark loved to swim, spending every summer at the city pool. He perfected his dive not long after finding the diving board. Mark had a knack for playing piano and was able to play by ear any song he heard. Mark’s love for music started with piano and expanded into dancing and collecting vinyl records. In 1975 Mark graduated from Garden City Senior High School. After graduating Mark worked at Harold’s Sirloin of America. In 1990 Mark moved to Salina and soon fell in love with the town, making Salina his home. Mark enjoyed being part of the community and making new friends. He loved his family and especially his nieces and nephews.

Mark is preceded by his parents, Douglas and Laverne Griggs, and his niece Kasandra Cannaley.

Mark is survived by his sister Karen Cannaley of Overland Park and his nieces and nephews and many cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, Kansas. The burial will take place the following day at 12 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa.
