Michael "Mike" Porter

Michael "Mike" Porter, 82, passed away peacefully at home on October 25, 2025, in Salina, Kansas. A lifelong resident of Salina, Mike was born on April 26, 1943, in Hays, KS, the son of Jerry and Margaret (Dillon) Porter.

Mike graduated from Sacred Heart High School. Throughout his working years, Mike held many varied jobs, but was a true salesman at heart. Mike spent many years selling cars before continuing his professional journey at Blue Beacon.

Mike married the former Melva Ann Prather, on Feb. 6, 1965, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral, Salina. They shared 61 devoted years of marriage together. Together they raised two children: Mark (Jennifer) Porter and Michelle (Dave) Cooper. Mike took immense pride in his family and found great joy in watching it grow.

He was a loving grandfather to Madison (Max) Pattillo, Kayson (Bradley) Durrett, Seth (Emme') Porter, Shane Porter, Jacob Cooper, and Rylie Cooper. His legacy continues through his great-granddaughter Reese Pattillo. Mike is survived by his brothers Doug (Mary) Porter, Danny (Dianna) Porter, and his sister Joanie (Dennis) Base and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother Tom (Marilyn) Porter.

In his healthier years, Mike embraced the outdoors and cherished time spent hunting, fishing, golfing, and relaxing at the lake. Above all else, his favorite moments were those spent with his grandchildren—sharing stories, laughter, and love that will be remembered for generations.

Mike will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, and the love and devotion he shared with his family. Mike’s life was marked by dedication to family and a deep appreciation for simple pleasures. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on November 10, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, 230 E. Cloud., Salina. There is a visitation Sunday Nov. 9th at the Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina, from 4-8 pm. The family will receive friends after 6 pm with a Vigil/Rosary starting at 7 pm that evening.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, in care of the Ryan Mortuary.

The family is very grateful to his nurses and caregivers at Interim Hospice for all of the love and support with his care.
