Patricia Ann (Helmick) Christy

Patricia Ann Christy, 88, of Salina, Kansas, died on May 18, 2022, after a long and rewarding life. She was born in Sargent, Nebraska, on June 1,1933 to Harold and Lottie (Stockham) Helmick.

In her final years she struggled with dementia but maintained her joyful spirit.

Pat graduated from high school in Ottumwa, Iowa in 1951. After high school she married Mac Christy, Jr. and spent many years as a Navy wife and raising 6 children in California, Illinois, Iowa, Guam, and Missouri.  Following her divorce in 1980, she returned to school and obtained an LPN certificate and worked in the Missouri State Hospital system until her retirement. After retiring, she moved to Salina, KS, where she could spend time among many family members. She invested her life in her children and grandchildren. She was a member of First Covenant Church. She loved her church and she loved times of worship and devotion. She approached life with joy and optimism.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Nancy Helmick Wilcox; her sister, Charlene Clow; her son, Tucker Christy; her grandsons, Tyson Christy and Jim Christy; and her niece, Joan McAntire.

She is survived by her sisters and brother: Donna Smithhart, Jean McAntire, Sharon Pattison, Deborah Baughman, Kathleen Milligan, and Andrea Bogert, all of Iowa, Jeanette Griffith of Oklahoma, Sara Cregar of California, and David Helmick of Missouri. She is also survived by her children: Patricia Ludwig (Steven) of Waukegan, IL, Tim Christy (Brenda) of Arrow Rock, MO, Tom Christy (Lee Ann) of Salina, KS, Colin Christy (Connie) of Turkey, Lisa Beery (Chuck) of Salina, KS; as well as 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren living from the West Coast of the United States to the heartland and on to the East Coast and Europe.

Visitation with family will be from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. at First Covenant Church, Salina, on Monday, May 23, 2022, and live streamed at https://firstcov.link/watch. Interment will follow at the Bavaria Cemetery.
