Ralph Steinborn Jr. Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ralph August Steinborn Jr., 74, of Salina, Kansas, who found peace on May 9, 2026.

Ralph was born in June 1951 in Abilene, Kansas, to Ralph August Steinborn Sr. and Frances Buxman. He graduated with the Class of 1970 from Lost Springs, Kansas. Shortly after graduation, Ralph enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1970, where he served as an Automatic Flight Control Systems Specialist with the 605th Military Airlift Support Squadron. He held the rank of Airman and was assigned to the 6514th Test Squadron.

In 1978, Ralph was honorably discharged from the Air Force. For his exemplary behavior and long-term commitment, he was awarded the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Air Force Longevity Service Award. These honors reflected not only Ralph’s service, but also the character and discipline he carried throughout his entire life.

In 1989, Ralph began his next career at Great Plains Manufacturing in Salina, Kansas, where he worked as a fabrication operator for 36 years.

Ralph is survived by his siblings: Linda Callis of Salina, Kansas; Patty Davis of Salina, Kansas; Kevin Steinborn of Newton, Kansas; Scott Buxman of Ulysses, Kansas; and Sandra Suoboda of Ramona, Kansas. He is also survived by his children: Amanda Steinborn of Salina, Kansas; Ralph Steinborn III of Salina, Kansas; and Crystal Horting of Bennington, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or the Salina VA Clinic.

Though Ralph may no longer be here to share his laughter or wisdom, his voice remains a whisper in our ears, guiding us forward. His strength and love are his greatest legacy. While we will miss him every day, we are comforted knowing that we carry a part of him within us.

The family of Ralph wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Pavey, Nurse Mandy, and Gentiva Hospice.
