Richard O. Howard, 87, of Salina, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2021. He was born in Vermillion, Kansas to Burt Otis and Mary Elizabeth (Dugger) Howard, on August 15, 1933. He married Carol Ducharme on April 2, 1956 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Omaha Nebraska. He served in the Army as Military Police in Korea. Dick had a full career with the postal service, first on mail trains, eventually retiring as a Post Master. He served on the school board in Sylvan Grove, and the local Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings; and son-in-law, Brad Spear.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Carol; children, Michelle Shanks (Jim), of Springfield, Neb., Deborah Schultz (Kevin), of Holyrood, Cindy Vermillion (Russ), of Salina, Timothy Howard (Deanise), of Russell, Stephen Howard (Kris), of Brookville, and Diane Spear, of Lincoln; thirteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday March 19, 2021 at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, Salina with Fr. Kevin Weber as celebrant. Rosary will be at 9:30 am prior to mass. Burial will be in St. Patricks Cemetery, in Lincoln, at 2:00 p.m.
