Richard Cockroft, Jr. Obituary

Richard Lee Cockroft, Jr.

Rich passed away on August 18, 2025 at age 70.  Born in Leechburg, PA on January 28, 1955 to Richard Sr. and Loretta Vigna Cockroft.  After growing up and traveling in a military family his mother chose to make Salina home.  She then remarried to George McCormick for a farm life in Bavaria.  This resulted in Rich working alongside George for over 30 years then continued with his mother.

For all that knew Rich his #1 passion was anything having to do with deer.  As he grew older, he left the early morning climbing up a tree bow hunting to those younger.  Passion then went to trail cameras, shed hunting and long calls with Lane (about deer).  Rich was very proud of his collection.  Outside of deer was time with his family, beloved cattle, trout fishing in Missouri and daily trips to Kwik Shop for his Dr. Pepper and stromboli.

Preceded in death; Mother – Loretta, Step Father – George, Birth Father – Richard Sr. and Brother – Larry Cockroft.

Survived by; Wife of 38 years - Laura Hopkins, Daughter – Ashley Strange, Granddaughter – Lily Strange, by marriage many extended family members and of course his sidekick Becky.

Rich held his farm family around Bavaria and Brookville in high regard as did George and his mother.  So many to name but included Leland and Doyle Richards, Lee Weis, Lane Johnson, Patrick Haberman, Justin Johnson family and Joey Armstrong along with cowboy crew.

A private burial will be held.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Bavaria Cemetery c/o Ryan Mortuary at 137 North 8th in Salina KS 67401.
