Richard "Dick" Worcester Obituary

Richard “Dick” Warren Worcester, 86, passed peacefully on March 9, 2025 at the Presbyterian Manor in Salina, Kansas.

He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Bernadette Worcester; his son, Randy Worcester and his wife Doris Worcester, their four children Kelsea Gillespie, her husband, Matthew and their children Adeline and Ezra, Claire, Grace and Dane Worcester; his daughter, Lori Barshop and her three children Jackson, Lillian and Samson; his sister, Karen Zigan and her husband Ted Zigan; and several nieces and nephews in Kansas and Colorado. He is also survived by two sisters-in law, Pat Coates and Evelyn Stegman; three brothers-in law, Wayne, Rean and Dean Stegman. He is also survived by his first wife, Karen Lefler Redwine. He is predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Colette (Baier) Worcester, and his sister, Elaine Blood and her husband Rex.

Dick was a successful local businessman for 50 years, owning and operating the family business, Jayhawk Roofing Company. His grandfather Ray Worcester founded the company over a hundred years ago, and Dick worked side by side with his father and eventually his son. Dick retired in 2010.

Dick was born in Salina on December 20, 1938. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1955. He joined the United States Marine Corp in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1963. He concluded his military service to join his father at Jayhawk Roofing but remained a proud marine throughout his life.

He married Bernadette “Bernie” Stegman on April 13, 1991. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, and they were happily married until the end.

Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed hunting trips with groups of family and friends and most especially with his son. Dick was an amazing father and friend.

There will be a vigil service at Ryan Mortuary, 137 North 8th Street, Salina on Wednesday, March 12 beginning at 4:00 pm with visitation continuing until 8:00 pm. There will be a funeral mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 230 East Cloud Street, Salina on Thursday, March 13, at 10:00 am, with inurnment to follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Salina.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization important to both Dick and Bernie.
