Virgil Bartell Obituary

Virgil Dean Bartell passed away on February 11, 2021. Virgil was born February 17, 1936 to Roy and Lennie Bartell in Scott City, KS.

Virgil worked in the family business until he was called to duty by the US Army where he proudly served from 1954-1956.

Virgil married Myrna Kleinsorge on June 27, 1959 and began their life in Selden, KS where he owned a filling station. They moved to Salina, KS where they raised their 4 children, Don, Randy, Debbie and Mike

Virgil  worked for Pepsi as a route driver for several years before beginning his career with Dillons. He retired from Dillons in 1998 after 22 years.  He loved camping, fishing, playing cards and spent many weekends at area lakes. He later enjoyed many trips with the Good Sam's Club. Virgil was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Knights of  Columbus, and the Good Sam's Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Myrna, daughter Debbie, three brothers, Delbert, Bob and Ray, and sister Isabel. He is survived by sons: Don Bartell (Nancy) Wamego, Randy Bartell Salina, and Mike Bartell Hays. Grandchildren: Lisa Njoroge (Jason), Lawrence, Stetson Smith (Jordan), Salina, Erin Rectenwald (Chris) Lawrence, Kailey Smith, Salina and Dakota Bartell (Kaylin) of Manhattan, and 4 great-grand daughters, and sister Delmonta Tholen.

A joint Funeral service for Virgil and his wife Myrna will be held May 15, 2021 at Sacred Heart Cathedral with the Rosary at 10 a.m. and the Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
