Wesley Woodson Obituary

On Sunday, February 28, 2021, Wesley Lawrence Woodson, Owner and Proprietor of Bes in the Wes Trucking, Brookville, Kansas, passed away in Salina, Kansas. Wes was born on March 21, 1953, in Meade, Kansas, the first child of Joe and Nelda Woodson. Wes attended elementary grades 1 and 2 at Montezuma, Kansas, 3rd and 4th grades at Penalosa, Kansas, and 5th through 9th grades at Cunningham, Kansas. He graduated high school in Kingman, Kansas in 1971.  In 1972 he joined the US Army as a volunteer.  He was stationed at Fort Carson Colorado, Nuremburg, Germany and Fort Sill, Oklahoma during his enlistment. He was Honorably Discharged in October 1978 and was awarded The Army Commendation Medal for his Outstanding Service. After his enlistment, Wes had his own custom cutting crew and worked as a roughneck in the oil fields. He then became an independent truck driver that transitioned into Bes in the Wes Trucking until his untimely death. He enjoyed small town life. He was currently president of the Brookville City Council and was elected to the office of Township Trustee of Spring Creek Township. He was mentor to many young men in the community. Wes had a big heart and was a friend to everyone, never hesitating to help when help was needed. Jordan Lindquist states “Honestly, one of the smartest guys I ever met. Just know he lived his life to the fullest and had a blast doing it.”

Wes is survived by his wife, Faye Woodson. They were married June 7, 2014. He has two daughters, April (Robbie) O’Berg, Crystal Woodson, and one son Kirkland Woodson, stepson Royce Ardery, and stepdaughter, Amanda (Jeff) Mohrlang. He has three brothers Thomas (Betty), Rodney (Liz) and David (Pam) Woodson. One sister Ilonda (Phillip) Griffee.  One grandson, Hunter O’Berg. One Aunt, Helen Alguire.  Survived by many nephews and nieces. Family was important to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Wesley Woodson and Nelda Virginia Thompson Woodson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2021, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th St, Salina, Kansas. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2021, at Ryan Mortuary. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Lerado Cemetery, Lerado, Kansas.
